Fall in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado

Fall in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado

For a number of years, some friends and I made our annual excursion down to the Crested Butte / Montrose area for some superb fall photography and this trip in the fall of 2013 was one of the best. We had all sorts of weather, snow, blue skies, rain, and electric sunsets. We also had a lot of down time so we had to get creative about how to spend some of our time, thankfully we never tired of one another and morale was always high! Where did we go and did we get any good photos? Read on to find out.

That Time I Won a Week Long Trip to Alaska

That Time I Won a Week Long Trip to Alaska

One of the more insane things that has ever happened to me personally was winning a trip to Wrangell-St. Elias National Park with five strangers in March 2012. Carl Donahue, owner of Expeditions Alaska, was our guide for the week and provided just enough sanity to get us through staying in a backcountry cabin with no running water or electricity. Would we survive? Would we get any good photos? Did we have fine dining in Valdez, AK while being in the roughest bar ever? Read on to find out.

Today’s photographer has so many options when it comes to photo editing software and then there are just as many (if not more) plugins available for those programs, finding the right choice for you can be daunting. With so many options available, how do you choose? Ultimately, how you want your photography to look is going to play a huge role in deciding. Mesa Arch Sunrise

Mesa Arch Sunrise

was tired, grumpy, and impatient as we walked the short walk to Mesa Arch in Canyonlands National Park back in December. Why? Very selfish, prideful reasons really. I didn’t want to be at Mesa Arch because as I told Rick, “there is one shot, and everyone has taken it”. I was referring to the sunrise glow at Mesa Arch which, while beautiful, has been shot to death. So why wake up early in the morning to shoot something like Mesa Arch?

Go Visit Great Sand Dunes National Park Now!

Go Visit Great Sand Dunes National Park Now!

It's no secret how much I love Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve, in my opinion it's the most beautiful national park in Colorado. It is certainly the most unique experience! While I love how the sand dunes look and being flanked by the Sangre de Cristo mountain range only stands as an example of why it's the most beautiful national park, I will freely admit that there's not much to do at the sand dunes. So why is it the most beautiful?

I'm Trying Out Bark, a Lead Generation Service

I'm Trying Out Bark, a Lead Generation Service

I responded to a spammy email with signed up for a lead generation service so I could pull back the curtain on that industry. While I'm committing zero dollars to this endeavor, I want to post this service review of Bark as my initial experience with their service and get more information as time goes then update this post. Did I get suckered into giving a company my email address for their marketing purposes? Will this turn out to be a good thing? Did I use my first .gif in this blog? Read to find out!

Dear 22-Year-Old Ryan Wright

Dear 22-Year-Old Ryan Wright

A number of years ago I saw a really good article on The Denver Egotist about creative professionals who were writing letters to themselves when they first got started. It inspired me to write a letter to myself at the beginning of my photography journey, when I got my first film camera. I didn't know that getting a film camera was going to change my life, I just wanted to take better pictures. It's good to reflect on humble beginnnings, remember where you've been, and be thankful for where you are now.

My Favorite Photos

My Favorite Photos

I often get asked "what is your favorite photo?" when talking about a particular location or trip, it's always a difficult question to answer because there might be some crappy photo that reminds me more of the experience than some pristine landscape photo. I'll give two examples in this blog, one with happy memories associated with it and the other with painful memories. People always say that I have a photographic memory and I do believe that I do, but photographic help my memory too.

12 Inspirational Photographers You Should Follow

12 Inspirational Photographers You Should Follow

I've worked on this list for a number of hours, thinking back to who has inspired me on my photography journey. Whose work do I look at and go "geez, how'd they take that?" or sometimes "holy mother of...".
