The Drinking Dragon of Hvítserkur
The Drinking Dragon of Hvítserkur
The Hvítserkur Rock Formation is somewhat easy to miss because of its remote location but it is well worth the venture to the western coast of Iceland to go visit. Hvítserkur is a 48ft. high basalt stack along the eastern shore of the Vatnsnes peninsula, in northwest Iceland. The rock has two holes at the base, which give it the appearance of a dragon who is drinking. The base of the stack has been reinforced with concrete to protect its foundations from the sea. This was a really interesting scene and I was glad to be there at low-tide which allowed us to venture out and see the sea stack up close.
