A Change in Plans

What was supposed to be a quick trip to Great Sand Dunes National Park turned out not to be, but with over 15” of fresh snow we made the most of the time spent in the mountains. One of the things I have learned doing photography, especially landscape photography, is that you need to be flexible and not hold on to any one thing too tightly. We still got our cameras out and even took pictures of some of the other inhabitants of the park.

Trip Report: Rio Grande River Headwaters and San Juan Mountains

While I believe it to be a universal fact, time spent at a cabin in the middle of nowhere is just as good as therapy without the high prices. Chase Shipley and I got some time at my family's cabin in the summer of 2017 and I can say that it's good for the soul. We spent time playing Yahtzee, throwing horse shoes, and chasing light. We visited American Basin for the first time and didn't have to deal with the nightmare that is "Sunday traffic back from the mountains".
