Presentation at the Colorado Nature Camera Club
I got my first speaking engagement of 2016 coming up at the Colorado Nature Camera Club on March 17th, 2016 in Boulder, CO and I'll presenting on the "Hidden Gems of Colorado's Backcountry".
Warm Winter's Blanket
As a photographer with a photographic memory I visualize scenes that I witnessed, often years prior, and set a visual bookmark to make sure when the time is right to take a photo like what I saw a long time.
Guide to Photographic Filters - Neutral Density
One of the questions I often get asked when out shooting is what type of filter I'm using and why I use that neutral density photographic filters. There is a lot of information out there on the subject of photographic filters but what I hope to establish is how I use them as a landscape photographer and scenes that I think are best suited for their usage.
Tutorial: How to Shoot Waterfalls
In this tutorial, I'll be explaining how to photograph the moving water of a waterfall to create a silky white ribbon that will really make your photos pop. I'll also be briefly going over gear needed to take successful long exposures of waterfalls that will have your friends marveling at your photos.
Kyle + Julia | Boulder Wedding
On November 22nd, I had the opportunity to shoot Kyle and Julia's beautiful Boulder wedding at the Ravencrest Inn just a couple of miles west of Boulder. I've had the pleasure of getting to know Kyle and Julia during their engagement and had a fantastic session with them at Brainard Lake for their engagement photos!
New Year's Eve in Crested Butte
I lived in the Gunnison/CB area for almost 9 years and every time I mentally kick myself for not taking advantage of photo opportunities better, the Gunnison River valley is home to some world class views and because I was so familiar with the views I thought "oh, I'm sure everything gets that photo" so I didn't take those "postcard" shots.
Mental Checklist
I've been (blessed?) cursed with a photographic memory, while not on the level that you see on TV, I can recall past situations/events/conversations/etc with relative ease. I don't exactly have control over it though and sometimes my memory just doesn't "come" to me like I want it to. Being a landscape and nature photographer though, this is extremely helpful because I can look at a photo and remember most everything about it...years after I saw it.
The Papoose Fire - 2 Years Later
Two years after the Papoose Fire scorched over 49,000 acres near Creede, Colorado, I returned to witness the land's recovery. The once-charred forests now show signs of rebirth, with new growth emerging amidst the remnants of devastation. This reflection captures the transformation of the landscape and the enduring spirit of nature in the face of adversity.
Crested Butte Wildflowers
It's no secret, Crested Butte, Colorado is the place for wildflowers in Colorado. Every summer, carpets of mule ear, lupine, indian paintbrush, columbines, and more appear on the hillsides around the majestic valley. So many in fact, during the second week of July the Crested Butte Wildflower Festival occurs in appreciation for all things wildflower.
Stupid Falls | Crested Butte Landscape Photographer
If anyone knows me, I'm a sucker for waterfalls. I flagrantly disregard TLC's advice in their 1995 hit "Waterfalls" when they say "don't go chasing waterfalls". We're all drawn to waterfalls, they are beautiful, powerful, and yet calming. Upper East River Falls, or as the locals know it "Stupid Falls", is one such waterfalls for me.
Bear Lake Sunset | Rocky Mountain National Park Photographer
Bear Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park near Estes Park, Colorado is a beautiful high-alpine lake and popular tourist destination all seasons of the year, and it happens to be one of my favorite photography locations. One summer evening in 2014, some friends and I made the trip up to capture the immense beauty of the park.
Lake Marie Sunrise
Lake Marie, in the Snowy Range outside of Laramie, WY, is a gorgeous high-alpine lake that is absolutely spectacular at sunrise. Though I cannot be sure, the John Prine song might be named after this lake. I've visited the lake on a few different occasions and each time I come back with new and interesting images.
